Description

Adobe’s new app, Experience Design CC (better known as XD) is the only design tool on the market today that allows you to design user interfaces, prototype interactions, and then export assets for development right out of the box. With a clean, uncluttered UI and a raft of powerful features—such as live preview, repeat grids, artboards, symbols and collaboration tools—XD is designed from the ground up to streamline the UX design process. It makes creating interactive, sharable prototypes a snap!

Jump Start Adobe XD will get you up and running with Adobe XD in no time. With plenty of detailed examples, this book covers:

  • Get to grips with XD's clean UI and efficient keyboard shortcuts
  • Use XD's powerful tools, such as repeat grid and symbols, to rapidly create wireframes and prototypes
  • Create interactive prototypes with ease
  • Collaborate with stakeholders using built-in sharing and feedback tools
  • Export assets for use in development

This book is suitable for beginner level web and UI designers. Some experience with another design tool, such as Photoshop, would be useful, but is not required.

Talk about being on point and ahead of the curve. SitePoint has managed to create a great resource on a program that is in BETA. I had some experience using Adobe XD but no deeper knowledge aside from poking around and playing with the program. This book will teach you new things and gives a nice walk through even if you are already somewhat familiar with it. For those with no exposure to Adobe XD, this will give you a nice intro and get you excited for what is in store in the UX/Prototype design tool competition.

At the risk of repeating what's already been said ... A great intro to Adobe XD, especially for a part-timer like me. It begins gently by walking through the design of a mobile app while explaining clearly what we were doing. As my skills and familiarity with XD increased so did the pace of the instruction ... but never too quickly. The downloadable resources allowed me to keep the focus on learning rather than getting bogged down with trying to find suitable images and text. Easy to read and follow along while still providing a good level of learning.

This a great intro to the up & coming Adobe XD tool, worthy of its inclusion in the "Jump Start" library. JSAXD walks you through an iOS app project from scratch, including custom designing a few icons - a process you might consider to be easy once you get the hang of XD's nuances. As XD is still in beta at the time of writing (and this review), Schwarz is careful to call out functionality that is slated for improvement or impending inclusion. If you're interested in consolidating a minimalist design tool with prototyping functionality (or if you're feeling left out as a Windows user by Sketch's macOS-only support), Adobe XD is well worth your consideration along with this book to get you started.

Good beginner guide to this prototyping tool that is part of Adobe CC Suite. If you're paying for the suite and want something better than photoshop for creating app & web prototypes, then you should use it. It would be handy if there was a comparison to Sketch as this is a direct competitor for UI design. It would also worth noting the way in which it is being developed with the future in mind. Since its launch it has added new features like libraries and symbols, and there are plans, according to the XD Devs to make more sophisticated interactions such as on page animations. This would make XD a more complete package. Sketch and third party plugins (i.e. craft, autolayout) are making some quite sophisticated prototyping tools for ui/ux designer. Adobe XD needs to take note of the ones that UX/UI designers are needing in their workflows. I think this book could have more resources that could relate to this.
